The Galloway Training Program has a 98% success rate. We credit much of our success to the relationships the runners develop running in a group setting. Many training programs provide training schedules and tips on running, but leave runners to train on their own or with people who do not match their abilities.

Albany Run Walk Pace Group Leader Pledge

So why do your Pace Group Leaders keep telling you to run on the left? Why do they keep trying to keep you from running way out in front of the pack? Why do I have to keep signing in every week? Your VOLUNTEER group leaders have many responsibilities that they are required to enforce each week to keep the program running smoothly, ensure your safety and to help be sure that the entire pace group has the best possible experience. Take a moment to read the PACE GROUP LEADER PLEDGE that each of our Pace Group Leaders sign at the beginning of each season. Click Here to learn more about their experience.

Pace Group Leader Pledge

1. I will follow the guidelines of the Galloway program as prescribed by Jeff Galloway--reviewing MARATHON for reference info

2. I will make every effort to be with my Pace Group every week – or at least 90% of the time.

3. I will constantly make our group aware of safety issues and make them aware that each is responsible for their own safety

4. I will notify each person that each is responsible for medical checks for any possible problem -- especially cardiovascular

5. I will become very familiar with the emergency plan and go over the emergency plan and the heat disease sheet -- once a month with my group

6. I will slow down to allow for heat and humidity

7. I will inform the PD of any problems, and coordinate to ensure all members have signed waivers and have paid

8. I will designate a support person to stay with/get a ride for a person who has to drop back

9. I will keep the group together -- no "breakaways"

10. I will conduct the MAGIC MILE about once a month -- and give each member their predicted 5K time

11. I will have a brief group clinic – or explain in one of my weekly emails to my group to show how this one mile test predicts a marathon time when running all out

12. I will adjust the pace of the group to the slowest member of the group-- as noted by the MM chart

13. I will take walk breaks as prescribed by the slowest member of the group

14. I will tell first-time marathoners to run their marathon at training pace (2 min/mi slower than predicted pace)

15. I will try to keep the running experiences fun--by encouraging jokes, juicy stories, etc
